The Issues
Coppell ISD Faces Financial Challenges
Putting Kids and Teachers First
Ensuring Authentic
Transparency
Engaging with Austin on school funding
Being Fiscally Conservative
You, like myself, pay a great deal in property taxes. How can our school district be struggling with finances? Why do we pay so much in taxes yet our schools are closing?

The Problem:
We do not have enough money to cover our expenses as a school district. For the 2023-2024 school year, we spent $6.5 million more than what we brought in. We have realized an actual deficit, $6.5 million, for the first time in many years.

Why do we have this problem?
"I pay a LOT in taxes. Why don't we have enough money for our schools?" Coppell is indeed a more affluent district, but this problem isn't unique to us. School districts across the state are being adversely affected just like Coppell ISD, because the State of Texas is withholding funding from public schools.

You see, the taxes you pay don't stay in Coppell. Because of recapture, a portion of your taxes are sent back to the state and held in a general fund. Currently, there is a $33 billion surplus in the state budget. That's right, billion with a "B." In fact, since 1992, Coppell has sent back $778 million of your taxpayer money to the state, which has helped that surplus grow into the billions, while we have suffered real consequences in Coppell.

The Consequence:
In September 2024, the Coppell school board voted to close Pinkerton Elementary, the oldest school in our town. Generations of families have gone through this beloved school. At the end of May 2025, it will cease to operate. This is the devastating impact on communities when funding is not properly managed by our government. School districts do not have enough money to operate and have to make drastic cuts, such as closing schools.

The SOLUTION:
Here's where you come in. You can make a difference for our children. Join me on March 3, 2025 as we go to Austin and petition our legislators for an increase in school funding. Specifically, we are asking for an increase in the basic allotment of $1340. Currently, each school gets an allotment of $6,160 per student, which is suppose to cover the costs of what it takes to educate a child. But it does NOT. We need an additional $1340.

Without that increase, we cannot keep up with inflation. We will have more budget cuts and more schools close. Now is the time to get involved. If you care about our schools, I need your time and your voice.

YOU matter.
Our kids deserve better.
Be the difference maker.

Join me in Austin to fight for our kids' education and future!
